AAMA Sponsored Workshop
Gokavi Transverse Technique Workshop Cynthia Gokavi, MBBS, CAFCI

We are pleased to announce another offering of an exciting education opportunity a "hands-on" workshop learning the Gokavi Transverse Technique (G.T.T.). Dr. Gokavi has presented this technique to Academy members during the Pan Pacific Conference several years ago; as a workshop at the Annual Symposium; and last year in the 2-day workshop format. Here is another opportunity for Academy members to learn and perfect the technique during a 2-day workshop. This workshop will be presented in December 2007 by Cynthia Gokavi, MBBS, CAFCI from the Gokavi Acupuncture and Pain Clinic. The workshop will combine lecture, case presentations, and "hands-on" exercises and demonstrations for physicians to become proficient with the Gokavi Transverse Technique. To assure a high quality learning experience, attendance is limited to 40 participants per workshop.
Purpose and Objectives:
The G.T.T. Worskhop provides physicians, physiotherapists and other physical medical practitioners with tools to confidently treat myofascial pain syndrome and dysfunction within their acupuncture practice. Physicians will be able to identify chronic pain of musculo-skeletal origin, shortened muscle syndromes with active trigger points and other entrapment syndromes. By using the G.T.T., which is a dry needling acupuncture technique with high frequency electrical stimulation they will be able to get enhanced, more permanent and dramatic clinical response in treating numerous musculo-skeletal conditions.
The G.T.T. is a comprehensive system of diagnosis and treatment that can offer a potent addition to a medical acupuncture practice. Its usefulness will include a refinement of treatment skills, clinical efficacy and also enhance treatment options in the management of chronic myofascial pain syndromes.
Accreditation:
The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
American Academy of Medical Acupuncture designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Target Audience and Requirements:
Physicians, physiotherapists who are interested in exploring a technique for the treatment and management of chronic myofascial pain release. NOTE: Physicians should be aware that this workshop includes demonstration and participant practice of precise, "hands-on" needle insertion skills and needle techniques taught by experienced professionals. Participants will practice the G.T.T. circuit and needling technique on each other working in pairs using all disposable needles. Physicians should BRING to the workshop, their own personal electrical stimulator with an output of 500MHz, a needle injector, and disposable needles to fit both.
Learning Objectives:
The overall objective of the G.T.T. Workshop is for physicians to use the technique in the effective treatment and management of acute and chronic myofascial pain release and dysfunction within their scope of practice.
Specifically, physicians attending the workshop, will be able to
- Demonstrate efficiency in the diagnosis of myofascial pain and dysfunction.
- Use the art of palpation of the muscles with active trigger points resulting in shortened muscle syndromes.
- Review the two steps of GTT and transverse dry needling skills and demonstrate ability to apply the technique.
- Appreciate the benefits of using GTT in the treatment of myofascial pain release of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
- Apply the treatment and management of chronic myofascial pain release.
