  • Agatha P. Colbert, MD, of Waltham, MA, wants members to know about the following two courses sponsored by Kiiko Matsumoto International: 1) Feb. 12–13, 2000—Kiiko Matsumoto: Acupuncture for Reproductive Problems, $225; and 2) April 15–16, 2000—Master Kawaii: Modern Japanese Acupuncture Techniques, $275.   • Members participating in AAMA’s referral program will be happy to hear that 578 inquiries came into national headquarters in October 1999 and 5,090 in November 1999 from patients seeking medical acupuncturists in their area. The toll-free phone number that patients are calling for physician referrals is 800/521-2262.
  • Practice members (associate and full) who are not participating in the patient referral program but would like to, need to notify AAMA by mail (4929 Wilshire Blvd., Ste. 428, Los Angeles, CA 90046), e-mail (jdowden@prodigy.net), or phone (Stephen Chan, 323/937-5514). If you are not sure whether or not you are already signed up for this program, check the patient referral listing on the public’s portion of the Academy’s website, which is located at www.medicalacupuncture.org on the Internet.
  • The Maurice Mussat, MD, conference on Energetics and the Curious Meridians will be held on March 17–19, 2000 at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle. Space is limited, so contact AAMA Washington Chapter President James Rotchford, MD (360/385-4843, kimber@olympus.net).
  • An Integrated Medicine Seminars event—Applied Kinesiology for Physician Acupuncturists, scheduled for March 4–5, 2000 with Jay Sandweiss, DO, in Baltimore—has been postponed. Rescheduled dates will be announced.
  • Pan Pacific Acupuncture Conference, a celebration of the practice of acupuncture in US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, will be on Oct. 25–28, 2000 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. The four-day event will be sponsored by AAMA, with each country holding a whole day presentation. Conference Chairman Nader Soliman, MD, is issuing an announcement for physicians willing to present topics or papers on behalf of the US. Call Dr. Soliman (301/251-2335).
  • If you have acupuncture privileges at a hospital and have not notified AAMA, please fax your name, the hospital, city and state to 323/937-0959 so we can add you to our list. You can see if you’re already listed on the website (www.medicalacupuncture.org). Also, if you need a hospital privileges credentialing package, call AAMA (323/937-5514) or download it from the Academy’s website.
  • Physicians, please be aware that every three years after you are approved as a practice member (associate or full), you need to attend and participate in 50 CME/CEU hours or more of acupuncture-related training to maintain your AAMA practice membership status.   • The Acupuncture Society of Michigan will hold its annual Spring Meeting March 4 and 5, 2000 in Ann Arbor. The speaker is Glenn Rothfield, MD, who is well known for his expressive instruction in Five Element Theory. For a brochure, call 734/665-8313.
  • Ann Cotter, MD, of Montclair, NJ, was recently profiled in a feature on acupuncture in The New York Times.
  • Richard C. Niemtzow, MD, editor of AAMA’s Medical Acupuncture, is requesting articles be sent to him ASAP. Article and book reviewers are also being sought.   • Lise Beard, MD, announces an educational trip to China (Beijing and Tianjin) April 20–to May 3, 2000, sponsored by Pair-A-Docs and Travel Tech. The trip will consist of 30 hours of hands-on acupuncture, TCM diagnosis training and herbal remedies concerning a vast array of common diseases. This will be eligible for 45 hours of CME credit for the AMA Category 2. After four days of clinical training in the largest TCM Hospital in China, the group will attend a three-day International Conference on Clinical Research in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and TCM.
