Education and Exchange
I hope you took advantage of and enjoyed the AAMA's 17th Annual Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout the years, the Academy has brought its membership a wide diversity of highly regarded international and national authorities on various aspects of acupuncture, including basic and clinical research, practice, and the full spectrum of acupuncture paradigms. Symposia and seminars throughout the years offer stimulating opportunities for practitioners from any of the many traditions of acupuncture, from the most classic to the most contemporary. Additionally, it is a time for colleagues to meet informally and discuss issues pertinent to their own specific practices, specialties, and patients.
Through its commitment and association with the International Council of Medical Acupuncture and Related Techniques (ICMART), the AAMA has enjoyed additional opportunities to join international medical acupuncture congresses and to receive international guests to our events. The Academy has been well respected for its leadership and innovation in moving through the many professional, social, and political issues that challenge our practices, and we have learned much from our international colleagues as well.
In Atlanta, we again received international colleagues both as speakers and as guests to the Symposium. These colleagues have been integral to our formation and growth both in the practice and understanding of acupuncture and as an Academy. They have participated in teaching, presented posters, won awards, and taken positive word back to their colleagues of the positive integration of acupuncture and medicine that we have both struggled to achieve and have enjoyed in the AAMA.
The ICMART Congress 2005 in Prague, Czech Republic, from May 20-22, 2005, was a great opportunity as well. Your participation in future ICMART Congresses and Symposia will expand your horizons, rekindle an excitement for new ideas, and lead you to lasting and meaningful friends abroad. As Past-President of the AAMA, I am now proud to serve as President of ICMART which now comprises 84 international organizations of physicians who practice medical acupuncture. No other organization in the world better represents your interests in medicine and acupuncture internationally and your participation is vital as we move forward through the next years.
Join us at the website and at one of the other ICMART sponsored events, and then in 2006, as the AAMA hosts the ICMART Congress in Washington DC, April 7th through the 9th.
