The AAMA conducts this three-day Symposium offering presentations from world-renowned faculty delivering the best available information on medical acupuncture. The Symposium is recognized as the definitive annual scientific and clinical conference for physician acupuncturists in North America. The program is CME approved.

»» Patient Referral Service
The Academy offers a complete, state by state Referral list online for patients seeking medical acupuncturists. Participation is open only to Fellows and Full Members of the AAMA. Referrals via the internet have been on a steady rise. Typically, 1,000-1,200 requests are fulfilled each month on the Academy's website.

»» AAMA Newsletter and the Journal, Medical Acupuncture
The Academy Journal, Medical Acupuncture, is published six times a year.  All members receive the Journal and have access, through the "Members Only" section of the website to current and past issues of the Journal.  The Journal is a source of thoughtful, scientific articles designed to advance the knowledge of medical acupuncturists practicing in North America. The bimonthly AAMA Newsletter provides current news and information regarding legislative, regulatory and practice developments in acupuncture as well as the latest meeting and conference information.

»» Continuing Education---Clinical Workshops, Webinars, Audio and Video Presentations
The Academy has an active Education Committee which organizes periodic weekend live clinical workshops, webinars with clinicians on various clinical and practice management topics.  An inventory of past sessions is accessible on the Academy website.  Efforts are underway to expand that inventory and to begin offering optional CME credits for many of the more formal presentations. The Academy offers a 2-day Acupuncture Review Course to help those practitioners preparing for the Board Certification examination.

Members can use this handy brochure as an introduction for patients new to acupuncture. It's perfect for an office reception area or general information mailings and can be ordered in bulk from the Academy. Download this form and return it to AAMA headquarters to order brochures. »» Working to Protect Physician Practice Rights
The Academy monitors developments in Congress, state legislatures and federal government agencies to help ensure that members' practice rights are protected.  The Academy provided input to the AMA CPT coding process re acupuncture codes; has provided input and testimony before various state legislative bodies contemplating changes to the regulation of physician acupuncturists, and: Leaders of the Academy have provided testimony and input to the NIH Consensus Conference on Acupuncture and to the White House Acupuncture Conference, among others.

»» Books, References, Audiotapes and Videotapes
Offer an extensive selection of medical acupuncture materials for the practitioner. Books and references are discounted 15% for Fellows and Full members and the catalog is updated regularly. An audio archive of past Symposium presentations is also available.

»» Board Certification in Medical Acupuncture
The AAMA helped create an independent American Board of Medical Acupuncture to offer Board Certification in Medical Acupuncture.  The ABMA has developed and administers a written examination for physicians practicing acupuncture. The exam reflects the core knowledge that one would expect of a physician practicing acupuncture in North America.  Physicians who have passed the examination and have the necessary formal education and clinical experience are recognized as Diplomates of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture (DABMA).
