The AAMA Education Committee has been tasked with not only developing continuing education activities, but in formats that may allow members more access to education opportunities. On this page are links to archived recordings of  live webinars done a couple of years ago. The presentation will include a review of the literature on the scope of the opioid crisis, including a discussion of the use of opioid therapy for chronic pain, the diagnosis of OUD, the social factors that contribute to the development of OUD and the barriers to treatment that patients encounter. It will also cover the neurological basis for chronic pain, addiction, and PTSD. The principles of Chinese Medicine as applied to OUD and the history of the use of acupuncture for OUD will be presented. The evidence on the use of acupuncture for the treatment of chronic pain, addiction, and PTSD will be presented as well. Finally, case reports will be presented to facilitate learning.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this LIVE webcast series physician participants will be able to:

  • Describe the scope of the opioid crisis
  • Explain the connections between opioid use disorder, chronic pain, and trauma
  • Identify patients who meet the criteria for OUD
  • Make appropriate treatment recommendations for OUD
  • Treat pain, trauma, and OUD with appropriate acupuncture protocols

Accreditation/Designation: The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The AAMA designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The ACCME defines “relevant financial relationships” as those in any amount occurring within the past 12 months, including those of a spouse/life partner, that could create a conflict of interest (COI). AAMA has policies in place that will identify and resolve COIs prior to this educational activity. AAMA also requires faculty to disclose discussions of investigational products or unlabeled/unapproved uses of drugs or devices regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Recorded Webcasts for CME

The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is pleased to announce another offering of an exciting education opportunity— recorded webcasts.  They were presented "live" and recorded so they are accessible to members whether they were able participate in the live event or not. Recordings were completed between 2017 and 2020.

With viewing the webcast comes the opportunity to earn continuing medical credits through this website.
