Online Video CME at the AAMA
I am pleased to announce that online video CME is now available at our AAMA website! There are currently two videos of 1 hour CME each posted and free to members. Neurologist Gary Stanton who specializes in pain medicine, sleep medicine and balance disorders gives an excellent presentation “French Auricular Acupuncture for Neurologic Disorders." Dr. Stanton is a neurologist at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA. He studied this approach at University of Paris XIII in Bobigny, France. He begins his presentation with a quote from his teacher David Alimi, MD: “Auricular therapy is applied neurophysiology.” This presentation, which was recorded at the 2014 AAMA annual symposium in Denver, CO, includes a number of scientific studies as well as protocols from University of Paris for pain, cancer pain, headache, pathologies of taste and smell, hiccups, trigeminal neuralgia, acute cerebral ischemia, Parkinson’s, peripheral neuropathy, and dyslexia.
Also now available is Dr Steven Aung’s presentation “Medical Acupuncture: From Physical to Spiritual Practice.” Dr Aung, from the University of Alberta, is well known to many in North America as a gifted physician and teacher and it is a pleasure to have this recording of him from the 2014 AAMA symposium in Denver.
To access these CME videos, you need to log on to the academy website as a member. Go to "CMEs" on the homepage menu bar, then "Available CME Courses." There you will find both Journal and Video CME available. Follow the instructions there on "How to access if you are a member." Use the appropriate promo code (JOURNALFREE or VIDEOFREE) and go all the way through the checkout process. View the video, take the CME post test and download your certificate!
These two are simply the first two videos approved for CME. Our goal is to add a new one every month. The plan is to have 15 hours of free CME video available to members every year. This is in addition to the free journal CME also available to members.
I want to express my gratitude to those members whose efforts are making this goal of online CME a reality. We owe our thanks to members of the Education Committee and the CME Committee. Please remember that these members all have "day jobs" like you and me; despite this, they are devoting the great amount of time required to make this project go forward. Dry Needling Is One Type of Acupuncture
Conclusions: "Acupuncture is more inclusive and dry needling is one type of acupuncture when acupuncture needles are used. Collaboration and integration should be strengthened between dry needling practitioners who are not physicians and acupuncturists so that the patients can receive safe and high-quality acupuncture treatment. Five suggestions were proposed for solutions to solve the conflict and debate between dry needling and acupuncture." http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/acu.2016.1187
